WETCC Campus Newsletter (10/23/26)

Aaniin WETCC staff, students, faculty and community members,

There is plenty happening across WETCC as we close out October and look ahead to November! This edition highlights upcoming events, student-led initiatives, and opportunities to learn, connect, and get involved.

Inside, you’ll find the Halloween Monster Mash, Spring 2027 registration opportunities, our upcoming Career Fair, Mashkiki Exploration Camp, Booktober, student fundraisers, and more.

We’re also celebrating the connections that strengthen our community, including a birch tree gifted by Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University in honor of our Phase IV Grand Opening. We hope you’ll join us and stay connected with all that’s happening at WETCC!

Booktober at WETCC: Fall Into a Good Book!

Get ready to grow your bookshelf!  Throughout Booktober, new books for children and youth ages 0–18 will be available each day in Drum Hall through the Book Rich Environment Program donation from Leech Lake Tribal College.

We’re kicking things off with stories celebrating powerful girls and women, with new themes and literary adventures to follow. Students, staff, and faculty are invited to stop by, discover a new favorite, and take books home to share with the young readers in their lives.

Upcoming daily themes:

October 26: Words, Art and Creativity

October 27: History, Justice and Our Changing World

October 28: Mysteries and Quests

October 29: Friendship, Identity and Growing Up

October 30: Love, Kindness and Little Moments

Student Senate Pennies & Pies Fundraiser

WETCC Student Senate is bringing a little friendly competition to campus with the Pennies & Pies Fundraiser, running October 19 through November 9.

Four Student Senate officers are going head-to-head with four WETCC staff members to see which team can collect the most points. Pennies add points to your favorite team, while silver coins and dollar bills subtract points from the opposing team—so choose your donations strategically!

Donation jars are located in the Student Services Office and IT Office.

The team with the lowest score will be pied by the winning team during the Pie-ing Event on Tuesday, November 10 at 12:00 p.m. in the Dining Hall.

Bring your change, support Student Senate, and join in the fun!

WETCC Wears Purple for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

This October, WETCC staff members wore purple in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, standing in solidarity with survivors, honoring those whose lives have been lost, and reaffirming our commitment to safe, healthy, and violence-free communities.

A Gift to Grow with WETCC

Participants gathered in the Community Extension garden for the October Planting Seeds of Resilience monthly gathering. This month’s focus was planting garlic, with participants learning about the planting process and getting hands-on experience preparing and planting garlic for next season.

The monthly gatherings provide opportunities to learn together, build practical growing skills, and strengthen connections to food, land, and community.

As part of the celebration of WETCC’s Phase IV Grand Opening, Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University gifted WETCC a birch tree to commemorate this important milestone.

The tree has now been planted on campus, where it can take root and grow alongside our college community—a lasting reminder of friendship, connection, and this new chapter for WETCC.

Miigwech to Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe University Ojibwe University for this meaningful gift and for celebrating this milestone with us. We are grateful to have this beautiful addition to our campus and look forward to watching it grow for years to come.
